XRAY is an artist and muralist from Florida who is based in Montreal. He traveled extensively during his childhood as part of a military family. He lived in Japan, Alaska, and Texas. He picked up graffiti in the early 90’s and eventually progressed into doing commercial projects for Disney and Universal Studios. Since moving to Canada in 2008, he has focused on creating a unique brand of artwork.
The pop artist cites a range of inspirations, including military insignia, nature, tattoos, tarot cards, secret society symbols, Japanese art, propaganda, video games, science, and action movies. XRAY is primarily known for his colorful and layered paint, wooden cut-outs, as well as his vibrant, tropical inspired paintings. XRAY often references advertising art from the 1950’s to the 1990’s with nods to current pop culture and vintage skateboard graphics.
